Merridale Cidery & Distillery on beautiful Vancouver Island, has a dog-friendly picnic area. You can enjoy a bite to eat and a glass of cider while your dog relaxes in the fresh grass.
About Merridale Cidery
The Cidery is well known in the Lake Cowichan area and boasts a beautiful orchard, hand-crafted ciders and spirits that are made right on site.
There is also a restaurant, store, picnic area and even glamping for guests to enjoy.
Dog-Friendly Patio and Orchard
While we are calling it a dog-friendly “patio,” what you will really find at Merridale is a grassy area in front of the store/restaurant with several picnic tables. Dogs are not allowed in the store or restaurant itself, but you are welcome to go in and order at the counter. The friendly staff will then bring your food and drinks out to you at your picnic table.
If you would prefer to have a proper picnic in the orchard, that is an option too. Order your food and drinks from the restaurant counter and head out into the orchard to find the perfect spot. You may want to bring along a blanket to sit on if you do!
Whether you decide to sit at the picnic tables by the restaurant, or in the orchard, a stroll through the orchard trees is a must. You will come across the classic Merridale Cidery pickup truck and can enjoy the beautiful, idyllic setting.
Our Experience at Merridale Cidery
We visited the Merridale Cidery on a hot August afternoon. Luckily for us (and Avy) there was plenty of water available for Avy to drink as we strolled through the grounds.
When we were done exploring we settled at a a table outside of the store/restaurant area. Avy lounged in the cool grass while we enjoyed a glass of cider and a flatbread. It was a perfect way to spend the afternoon.
If you love a gift shop as much as I do, the shop at the Merridale Cidery will not disappoint. If you are lucky you can get some tasters of their spirts while you explore all that they have to offer. From local products to gift items and more, it is definitely worth a visit while you are there.
