West Side dog park is a very unique park. It makes use of Ministry of Transportation Land. It is literally located in the center of a roundabout with highway all around it. While not your usual dog park, it definitely works. There is plenty of space that is a mix of gravel and grass. There is water, garbage cans and park benches to add to the atmosphere.
How do you get to West Side Dog-Park?
If you want to visit West Side Dog-Park, don't make the mistake that we did! We put the location in our GPS. If you do this you will find yourself driving down the highway while you look up at the park with no idea how to access it.
The best way to visit the park is to go to 7th Avenue and 22nd Street and try to snag one of the 4 or 5 street parking spaces. From there you can walk across a pedestrian bridge and enter the park.
West Side Dog Park Features
Like all New Westminster dog-parks, the West Side dog-park has a "poop bag recycling" tube. What that means is that there is a bag holder at the entrance to the park. Have an extra bag or two? leave it behind for someone who may have forgotten theirs.
The park is built on a hill which does not seem to bother the dogs at all. They can run and play around the park while you have the peace of mind of knowing that it is fully fenced.
Did you pick up some poop while you were at the park? No problem, there is a garbage can at the entrance where you can deposit your package as you leave.
