Holiday Events you can do With your Dog 2020

Finding fun Christmas events that you can take part in with your dog is a little more difficult this year with COVID-19 restrictions in place across British Columbia. That said, with some creativity, you can still find several activities that you can enjoy with every member of your family – including the dog. These suggestions are sure to get you into the Christmas spirit!

Check back for updates – we’ll be adding events to this post when we come across new ones.

Santa and Holiday Photos For Your Dog

This year Santa is staying safe in his bubble, so many locations will not hold their traditional Santa photo events. Never fear though, there are several places you can go to do a “virtual” Santa photo or take a holiday selfie with a variety of props and backgrounds.

Check your local stores for selfie backdrops. We stumbled across the one at our local pet store but were unable to find any others advertised online – but we suspect there must be others somewhere.

Virtual Photo Services

There are a number of services available this year recreating the traditional visit with Santa online. You can superimpose your photos on a variety of backdrops and, of course, include Santa. Some services even offer a short phone call or video call with Santa.

Some services include a free option, but they all seem to have paid options with premium backdrops and features.

Dog-Friendly Christmas Tree Farms

Nothing says Christmas like the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree – and even better when you have the satisfaction of cutting down that tree yourself! The following is a list of Christmas tree farms in the Province that welcome your dog to join you on this favourite holiday tradition.

Dog-Friendly Christmas Light Displays

If you want to get into the Christmas spirit, why not bundle up and check out some impressive Christmas light displays? The following locations have beautiful light displays that are dog friendly. Take the dog for a walk and enjoy some beautiful sights at the same time.

Buchart Gardens Christmas Lights: A Christmas light display, food trucks, holiday entertainment and more!

Canyon Lights: At Capilano Suspension Bridge Park – a North Vancouver tradition.

Lights at Lafarge: “The City made the difficult decision to cancel the popular annual light display at Town Centre Park this year based on the continuing Provincial Health Officer’s ban on gatherings and events.”

Dog-Friendly Holiday Runs

It can be tough to stay in shape over the holidays, with all the tempting goodies around and less time for exercise. Keep your motivation high by registering for a Holiday themed run. With many running events taking place in a virtual environment this year, your dog can come along with you!

Support Dogs In Need This Season

BC SPCA Annual Charlie's Christmas Event

Not all dogs have a wonderful Christmas full of gifts and treats. This year the BC SPCA is holding a holiday toy drive event for dogs on the downtown Eastside of Vancouver. If you have the means to support this event, consider making this Christmas special for a dog in need.

12 Days of Giving for 12 Local Rescues

Global Pet Foods (Burnaby), The Pawsitive Collection and Floofy Studios have teamed up to give back to the community. The are accepting donations of cash, gently used (or new) toys, food, bowls, leashes, kennels, blankets and a variety of other things to support 12 local Rescues.
