King Edward Bay Beach is a small, off-leash dog beach with beautiful west-facing views. This would be a great place to enjoy a sunset but it is a bit of a hike to get to the beach.
Parking is limited – there is a grassy parking area with room for about a half dozen vehicles on Captains Way, at the corner of Windjammer Road.
Cross the road and head down the a long on-leash path which heads down to the beach. You will go down several sets of stairs and come out at a road called Frances Walk. The path continues with more stairs on the other side of the road.
You will be tempted to drive down Frances Walk (which is a strange name for a road), but there is zero parking, so don’t bother. There is a small parking area just right of where the path continues across the street, but it is signed as “guest parking for the strata homes.”
Are dogs allowed on Bowen Island Beaches?
Bowen Island’s municipal website says that, “dogs are currently allowed off-leash in all municipal parks but must be kept under control by owners.” It also says that “dogs are not allowed on Tunstall, Sandy or Bowen Bay Beaches in July and August,” however, “at all other coastal access points, leashes are optional, so long as your dog is under control and kept within 3 metres of you.”
“Public beach,” as defined in Bowen Island’s Animal Control Bylaws, “means those public lands located between the low water mark and fifteen (15) metres upland of the high water mark of any body of salt water”
