The Nanaimo Regional District maintains the Morden Colliery Regional Trail. This trail connects the Morden Colliery Historic Provincial Park with Hemer Provincial Park. It is a 1.1 mile trail in length.
The Regional trail runs along an old rail grade used to move coal in the early 20th Century. As you walk along the trail you will see remnants of the mining operation that once took place here.
Dogs on the Morden Colliery Regional Trail
Dogs are allowed to be off-leash while on the trail maintained by the Regional District of Nanaimo (Morden Colliery Regional Trail). However dogs must be kept on-leash when in other areas of the Provincial park.
Completing the Trail
The Regional District of Nanaimo has plans to build a bridge over the Nanaimo River. This would connect the two parts of the current trail.
