Lynn Headwaters Regional Park has some off-leash trails that are an excellent place to go for a hike with your dog.
One of my favourite routes to take is the Lower Lynn Loop trail to the 3rd Debris Chute. This relatively flat trail follows the river until it comes out in a clearing where you can either turn around or carry on to Norvan falls for a longer and more difficult hike.
To access the trail, park at the entrance to Lynn Headwaters Regional Park and Follow the Lynn Loop Trail until it turns into the “Cedars Mill Trail”. You can also loop back on the upper Lynn Loop Trail if you are ready to call it a day – but note the upper Lynn Loop Trail is on-leash only.
Note: the trail through the park entrance and over the bridge are on-leash only! Once you are over the bridge and start on the Lynn Loop trail it is leash optional so you can let your dog have a run!
Continue on the Cedars Mill Trail to the 3rd Debris Chute. You will come out in a clearing with access to the river.
If you want to be on an off-leash route for the entire hike then follow the same route back. The round trip hike is 7.8 kms.
Note: Lynn Headwaters Regional Park has reported bear sightings – always be bear aware when hiking! Check out our post on keeping your dog safe from a bear encounter for helpful information.
