Dog Areas
Brookman Park, located in Davis Bay, Sechelt, features a modest but enjoyable off-leash dog area that welcomes dogs and their humans to explore a shared-use green space. This natural park sits alongside Chapman Creek and offers shade, space to roam, and a creekside trail that is especially enjoyable for off-leash walks.
While the dog zone is not fenced, it is clearly designated and commonly used by locals for casual, relaxed off-leash time. Visitors should be aware that it is adjacent to a children’s play area, so dogs should be under reliable voice control. Benches are available nearby if you want to relax while your dog is playing.
The trail system within the park provides just enough space for dogs to run, sniff, and explore while offering a peaceful, forested setting with some artistic surprises—such as chainsaw-carved gnome figures hidden along the trails. The small size of the park limits more extensive walking, but the ambiance makes it a frequent stop for residents. On hot summer days the forested trail offers some shade and relief from direct sunlight.
Seasonal salmon spawning in Chapman Creek adds another dimension for dogs and owners alike. Pet owners should exercise caution during late summer and early fall months when fish, and sometimes local wildlife like bears, may be active nearby. Please keep your dog out of the creek at this time.
Pet waste bags and garbage bins are available on-site, and the trail is generally well-kept thanks to community stewardship. Please be sure to pick up after your dog to maintain this space for all users. Drinking water is not available, so it is recommended to bring your own for both you and your pup.
Other Areas
Beyond the dog-use zone, Brookman Park serves as a quiet family-friendly destination with a children’s playground, open grass areas, and access to Chapman Creek. While not large, the playground area is well-used by local families and includes modern play equipment suitable for younger children. This makes the park an attractive destination for all members of the family.
Planning a family picnic? The park also has picnic tables for users to enjoy.
The nearby creekside trail is a hidden gem, offering a peaceful stroll beneath the tree canopy. Though it’s short, it creates a sense of being immersed in nature and serves as a mini escape from surrounding residential streets. Interpretive signs and whimsical carvings enhance the walking experience. Stop and take a photo or just enjoy the beauty of the trail.
There is a small parking lot off Simpkins Road, and access is pedestrian- and stroller-friendly. While there are no public washrooms in the park itself, visitors can find facilities nearby along the Davis Bay waterfront just a few minutes away on foot.
The park connects easily with surrounding sidewalks and is often a starting or ending point for dog walks through Davis Bay’s scenic neighborhoods. It also serves as a green rest stop for people traveling along the Sunshine Coast Highway. A great opportunity to give your dog a chance to stretch its legs before you arrive at your destination.
