Frank Jones Memorial Park is currently Ucluelet’s only official off-leash dog park. Although if you talk to the locals they will often point you to other parks and beaches where many people allow their dogs to run free.
The park has been used as an unofficial dog-park for years, so city council made it official in 2020, adding signage and designating it as an off-leash park.
The park is mid-sized and fully fenced so you can safely take your dog there for a game of fetch or to play and chase with other dogs. It is a full-sun dog park so you may want to avoid it on particularly hot days, or bring along lots of water for your dog (and yourself!) It was formerly a ball diamond so you can find some shade and a place to sit down in the former dugouts.
Unfortunately you won’t find any official information on this park being dog-friendly on the Ucluelet City website which may result in visitors not being aware that there is an official dog-park that they can visit to exercise their dog. Information on this park was gleaned from a newspaper article and a visit to the park ourselves to check out what the current status is.
