The Rainforest Trail is a popular walk/hike located in the beautiful Pacific Rim National Park in Tofino, BC. It’s one of my favourite places to go when I visit the area.
There is a boardwalk that runs through the entire walk, so you don’t have to worry about tripping over roots and scrambling over rocks. There are quite a few stairs and/or steeper sections though, so it is not necessarily an easy walk. the Pacific Rim National Park website rates it as moderate. You can choose to do route “A” or route “B” – located on either side of the Pacific Coast Highway. Each loop is approximately 1km long. If you opt to walk both routes be careful when crossing the highway as it is a busy road with vehicles travelling at high speeds.
Through the trail you will find beautiful scenery, interpretative signage and even some areas where you can sit down and relax.
If you need to use the facilities there are two outhouses in the parking lot.
Parking at the Rainforest Trail:
There is a small parking lot a the Route B entrance to the trail. Note that RVs and busses are not permitted in this parking lot. if you are driving an RV or bus you can park at the Combers parking lot 2km North of the Rainforest Trail. You can then walk back to the trailhead along the ʔapsčiik t̓ašii (pronounced ups-cheek ta-shee) path.
Our visit to the Rainforest Trail:
We visited the Rainforest trail with Avy on a slightly rainy day (which seemed appropriate!). While the rain made the boardwalk a bit slippery in places, it didn’t hold us back much at all. We loved our time spent walking through the forest – taking in the beautiful scenery and smelling all of the wonderful forest smells. Avy loves a forest walk – there is so much to explore and sniff. Dogs must be kept on-leash on all parts of this trail but that didn’t hamper her enjoyment at all. 100% would recommend this walk as a must-do when visiting Tofino or Ucluelet.
