Is the Whyte Lake Hike Dog Friendly?
Yes. The majority of the hike to Whyte Lake park in West Vancouver is off-leash. As you approach Whyte Lake itself there is a section of environmentally sensitive trail. This section of the trail is on-leash. Signage on the trail is very clear so you will know where to leash up.
The hike to Whyte lake is short (5km round trip) and picturesque. It is an excellent place to explore with your dog on a sunny afternoon. Plan for approximately 2 hours round trip to complete the trail. You may also want to allow some extra time to stop and enjoy the lake at the top.
Some sections of the trail are more technical with exposed roots and rocks but the majority is relatively easy.
Is there parking at the Whyte Lake trailhead?
There is a small gravel parking lot at the trailhead for Whyte Lake. The lot fills up very quickly on sunny days so plan for an alternative parking spot if needed. You may have to walk a short distance to access the trail.
The trail will take you under the highway and then up a hill before you enter the forest and continue your hike.
