Saysutshun (Newcastle) Island located just off Nanaimo, BC is a beautiful Provincial Marine Park. The name Saysutshun comes from the Snuneymuxw people.

The island is accessible only by foot passenger ferry or boat. Dogs are welcome on the passenger ferry for a small fee.

When you reach the island you will be greeted by a large grassy field with picnic tables. There is a kayak rental shop and a welcome building with a concession. Please note the concession is not open every day so be sure to check the website for up to date information.

Getting To Saysutshun (Newcastle) Island

A foot passenger ferry runs between Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo BC and Newcastle Island. See the Island website for updated information on ferry schedules and fees.

Camping on Saysutshun

A portion of the island is dedicated to a walk-in provincial campsite. You can book a campsite via the Discover BC website. See the Newcastle Island Website for detailed information about the campsite.

Dogs on Saysutshun (Newcastle) Island

Dogs must be kept on-leash at all times while exploring the island. Your dog will love exploring the many trails, pebble and sandy beaches that the island has to offer.
