Blackie Spit Dog Park – Crescent Beach, BC

Community Gardens - Crescent Beach

This week Avy and I were lucky enough to get to spend time at a cabin in Crescent Beach, B.C. I’ve been going to Crescent since I was a baby and it’s one of my favourite “happy places”. Being able to enjoy it with Avy this week made it even better.

Crescent Beach is a small community that once upon a time was primarily made up of summer cabins and “summer people”. In recent years the majority of beach houses have been replaced with beautiful permanent residences and year-round occupants. As the community has grown and changed, so have the amenities – including the dog park!

Blackie Spit Dog Park is located at the end of McBride Avenue in Crescent Beach (South Surrey), B.C.  The entrance is from the dyke trail behind the Crescent Beach Swim Club (CBSC) on the right side of the parking lot.  As you enter the dyke trail (which is an on-leash trail – see my blog post about the Dyke Trail here) you will see the dog park entrance on your right.

There are two additional entrances to the park – one from a point further along the dyke trail and another from the CBSC parking lot. Each of the three entrances is a “double gate” entry and well signed.

The dog park itself is wonderful. There is a huge open area for dogs to play, a covered gazebo for dog guardians to stay dry on hot days, two benches, a poop bag station and even cup holders and a courtesy broom for sweeping the gazebo out.

If playing in the open space isn’t your thing there are also some short trails that run through the back of the dog park that you can play on.  You will also find plenty of garbage cans around the dog park and parking lot if you need to dispose of poop or anything else while you are there!

Avy and I made a short “Dog Park Tour” video that you can view here to get a sense of the size and beauty of the dog park and beach.

After you’re done in the park you can take your pooch over to the dog swim area (also part of the Blackie Spit Dog Park) and let them have a swim in the ocean.  The swim area is fenced off and very well marked.  It’s located off the main parking lot for Blackie Spit.

Also of note – all parking in Blackie Spit is free!!
