Are Dogs Allowed on Jericho Beach?

Dogs are allowed ON-LEASH only at Jericho Beach Park and they are not allowed on the beach itself at all. They are welcome in the large grassy park that surrounds the beach. You can also walk your dog on the trails that run through the trees next to the park area and around the duck pond. Just be sure to keep your dog on a leash while you explore.

What is there to do at Jericho Beach Park?

Jericho is one of Vancouver's most iconic beaches. It has a large sandy area complete with beach volleyball courts. There is also a huge grassy park area, perfect for picnicking. You can take a walk along the seawall path or venture up into the park and check out the duck pond.

Southwest of the park is a treed area full of trails. It is a perfect spot to take the dog for a walk.

What amenities does Jericho Beach Park Have?

In addition to the beach, park, and trails there are several other amenities at Jericho. If you ride your bike to the beach there are bike racks (although not many so be prepared for them to be full) where you can lock your bike. If you didn't pack a lunch there is a popular concession stand. You can even use the tourist binoculars to look at the beautiful North Shore mountains or one of the ships anchored just off the shore.

There is a pay parking lot at the beach. If you prefer you can park for free on West 4th Avenue at Jericho Park East and walk down to the beach.

Even as an on-leash destination, it is well worth the visit.

Where Can I Take My Dog Off-Leash Near Jericho?

If you are looking for somewhere to take your dog for an off-leash swim, Spanish Banks Dog Beach is just a few minutes down the road. To get to the beach you can either walk down the seawall path (approximately 4km)  or drive a short distance down Northwest Marine Drive. Spanish Banks has both a dog beach and a large grassy off-leash area.

Other off-leash parks very close by are Locarno off-leash dog park and Pacific Spirit Park.  Locarno off-leash is a grass park a block away from the beach. Pacific Spirit Park is a large urban forest with 73 kms of off-leash trails. You can access Pacific Spirit Park from Northwest Marine Drive, across from Spanish Banks.
