Buntzen Lake is a very dog-friendly place to go adventuring with your dog! It’s main feature is a fully-fenced and gated dog park on the beach – that’s right, the fencing goes right into the water! It also features a fully-fenced and gated enclosure with a grassy field, one off-leash trail and a plethora of on-leash trails.
Buntzen Lake is reservoir for the BC Hydro hydroelectric dam at the north end of the lake. BC Hydro is the park operator.
Where is the dog beach at Buntzen Lake?
It’s at the far right (east) end of the beach, next to the entrance to the Buntzen Lake Loop Trail. It includes about 100 meters of sandy beachfront, covered group picnic tables, and regular picnic tables scattered throughout.
Where are the off-leash hiking trails at Buntzen Lake?
There is only one off-leash trail, it’s a one-way hike, and it’s trailhead starts near the entrance to the main parking lots, next to the BC Hydro service road gate (which runs up the east side of the lake). The trail leads south and ends next to the Equestrian Staging Area at Rogue Creek. From there you can cross the main road (Powerhouse Road) and use the on-leash trails to make your way back to the main parking lots. It’s a pretty walk and the terrain is easy going and mostly flat.
Where is the off-leash enclosure at Buntzen Lake?
The off-leash enclosure is conveniently located between the east parking lot and the BC Hydro Service Road. The main gate is near the middle of the parking lot.
Parking
Reserve your parking spot before you go! This park is now so popular that you can’t get past the main gate during the peak season without a reservation.
