Are dogs allowed on Mosquito Creek Trail?
Yes! Mosquito Creek Trail in North Vancouver, BC has a long, leash-optional trail that you can walk with your dog. Dogs are not allowed in the creek, playground or sports field area. However, the trail along the creek is dog friendly and off-leash.
The lower section of the off-leash trail starts at Fell and West 16th Street. It runs north to The Upper Levels Highway (Highway 1). From there, Mosquito Creek Trail continues on-leash through William Griffin Park. It becomes off-leash again from the north end of Del Rio Drive to Montroyal Boulevard. We are calling this section Upper Mosquito Creek Trail.
Some of the trail along the Lower Mosquito Creek Trail is fenced along both sides to help keep dogs out of the creek. The creek, is a sensitive salmon spawning area that dogs are not allowed in. Unfortunately, there are areas where there is no fencing and it is very easy, and tempting, for dogs to enter the creek. If your dog is motivated by water, like Avy is, you may want to leash-up in these areas.
There is a dog waste bin and poop bags located at the start of the trail. There are also several dog waste bins along the trail. This makes it easy to clean up after your dog and dispose of the poop. The entry of the trail also has a porta-potty in case the humans also need to go!
There is limited street parking at the numerous trail entrances, so you may have to park farther away and walk in.
